The Intranet involves five basic building blocks - The client OS and browser, the server OS and Web, Server apps, productivity tools, content authoring and software development tools.
Content (information itself) is the most critical part of the corp. Intranet. From content-centric point of view the browser is used to present content, the Web server (and database/ mail servers) hosts content, productivity tools are used to create, analyze and collaborate content while authoring tools also create content. Software development tools develop software component, which is another form of content.
